Mrs. Texas United States Raquel Fatiuk, Honored Guest and Speaker For TAASA Afternoon of Tea, Champagne, and Fashion Event The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA), benefit will take place October 27, at Willow Brook Country Club.
Mrs. Fatiuk, a sexual assault survivor herself, serves as a volunteer for the National Sexual Assault Hotline with the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN).She is a member of the RAIN Speakers Bureau. Mrs. Fatiuk will be speaking about Ending Victim Blaming in Sexual Assault. “It is all too common in our society for the survivors of sexual assault to be blamed instead of the perpetrators. These victim-blaming attitudes marginalize the survivor and make it harder for the survivor to come forward and report the abuse,” Mrs. Fatiuk stated. Mrs. Fatiuk currently resides in Houston with her husband, John.
Annette Burrhus-Clay, Executive Director of TAASA, will speak about the organization and introduce volunteers from the Tyler Crisis Center. Mrs. Clay was appointed for two terms to the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Child Abuse Prevention by former Governor Rick Perry and serves as vice-president for the board of directors of the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence (NAESV), the advisory board of RAINN, and has worked with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention on sexual violence initiatives. Mrs. Clay and her husband, Curtis, recently purchased a home in Bullard where they plan to move.
TAASA is a statewide organization dedicated to providing support for agencies and individuals working to end sexual violence in Texas through education, prevention, and advocacy. The organization supports survivors on their paths to hope, healing, and justice and is committed to changing the conditions in Texas communities that make sexual violence more likely to happen, and to shifting social norms to support healthy and thriving individuals and communities. Based in Austin, TAASA member agencies comprise a statewide network of more than 80 crisis centers serving rural as well as metropolitan areas.
