Lonvgiew man has life threatening injuries after shoot out with police.

A Longview man is in critical condition after a shootout with police Tuesday morning.

Longview Police Chief Bishop said at 2:47 a.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to Academy Sports + Outdoors, responding to an alarm.

When police arrived, officers noticed that the front glass had been broken and someone had gained entry.

A man with an M-4 rifle exchanged gunfire with the officers before escaping to Best Buy where he climbed on the roof. Police said he later called 911 and told dispatch he was on the roof and had been shot.

The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Nathan David Lanicek, of Longview.

Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt said the suspect was shot in the neck, and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Three officers were placed on paid administrative leave and the Texas Rangers are investigating to ensure all LPD policies and procedures were followed.
