Longview man still hospitalized after Tuesday officer involved shooting

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A Longview man remains hospitalized after Tuesday's officer-involved shooting.

Longview Police said 35-year-old Nathan David Lanicek was taken to Longview Regional Medical Center after he was shot in the neck in a shootout with police behind Academy Sports and Outdoors.

A spokesperson for Longview Regional Medical Center says it has no one listed by that name, but Officer Kristie Brian said Lanicek remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, officers were responded to a store alarm Academy at 2:47 a.m. Tuesday.

They arrived to find the front door glass broken out, and while searching the grounds, they heard noises from the back of the store, according to police.

Officers discovered Lanicek with an M4 rifle, and a shootout ensued before Lanicek climbed a fence and ran into a wooded area.

Moments later, he called 911 to report he was atop the roof of Best Buy with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to police.

It is believed that he used a ladder to climb the building to the roof.

No charges have been filed in the case, but three Longview police officers are on paid leave while the Texas Rangers investigate.
