Local artist Dace Lucia Kidd on Tuesday started painting a mural titled "The Eyes of Tyler" on a white wall across the street from The Foundry Coffee House on Broadway.

Kidd said it should take her three weeks to finish the mural.

"This is my first day to start painting the mural for the city of Tyler and invest in Tyler," Kidd said. "I plan to (get) this finished by July ,8 and that is when the Hit the Bricks event the city of Tyler organized (is scheduled). We will have a celebration party."

Hit the Bricks is held every second Saturday of the month in downtown Tyler. Businesses and organizations bring special events and activities to the downtown area.

Kidd will work on the mural in the morning hours while she has shade. When it gets hot, she will pack up and wait for the next morning to continue painting the mural.

"I'm lucky to have the shade from the Carlton building, but as soon as I lose my shadow, I'll call it a day," Kidd said.
