The city of Tyler's Liberty Hall is accepting entries for its first battle of the bands event, "Rock, Paper, Scissors" through Wednesday, according to a press release from the city.

"We've had a good response so far, but I know there are more bands in East Texas who are looking for a way to get their music heard," Liberty Hall manager Anne Payne said in the release. "If you are looking for a location with great acoustics, Liberty Hall should be on your list of venues," she said.

Bands who are interested in performing in this show should submit a DVD or link of their performance with a limit of two songs. The band can feature any genre of music, but at least one song submitted must be an original. Bands must be from the East Texas area, must have at least three members, and no solo acts are permitted, according to the release.

A panel of judges will review the music and narrow down the competition. The bands selected to move forward will be posted on Facebook and voted on by the public. The field will then be narrowed to five bands that will play on the Liberty Hall stage on Aug. 17.

"Each band selected to perform will receive a professionally recorded video of their performance at Liberty Hall to market their band for future bookings," Ms. Payne said in the release. The winning band will get to play in the upcoming East Texas All Star Showcase on Sept. 7.

Bands may mail a DVD recording to Liberty Hall at 110 W. Erwin St., Tyler, TX 75702 or email a link to, subject line: Rock, Paper, Scissors. For questions, call Ms. Payne at 903-595-7274.
