Robert E. Lee High School Principal Gary Brown recently announced that student Allan Evans has been named a semifinalist and Alyssa Graham a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Evans is among approximately 16,000 students nationwide receiving semifinalist honors who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships.
Semifinalists are the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and are scored among the top 1 percent of the approximately 1.4 million juniors who took the PSAT test in the fall of 2014.
Evans is president of the Lee chapter of the National Honor Society and also president of the Philosophy Club. He is involved in cross-country varsity, 3200-meter Track and Field, an Eagle Scout, a member of Mu Alpha Theta and has received art awards.
Miss Graham received a letter of commendation in recognition of outstanding academic promise as shown on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
She is band head drum at Lee, vice president of the National Honor Society, president of Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club vice president, recipient of Girl Scout Ambassador and Gold Award and a Charlotte Floyd Voice Student. She has also participated in numerous other activities including quiz bowl, cross-country, PATH volunteer, Academic Rodeo Pentathlon and Math UIL.
