At the City Council meeting on Sept. 12, Keep Tyler Beautiful board members and staff liaisons announced the receipt of a grant and presented their Gold Star Affiliate award to City Council, highlighting many of the programs and projects that have been implemented over the last year.
Keep Tyler Beautiful has received a grant for $20,000 from Keep America Beautiful and Lowe’s Community Partner Grant Program to go towards renovations at Gassaway Park. The goal of remodeling Gassaway Park is to create a safe, usable space for the community. This project would re-position all park amenities to the top of the hill, provide an actual park entrance, install a new basketball half-court, and plant an array of trees to fill in the area where the old park amenities used to sit. Keep Tyler Beautiful has reached Gold Star affiliate status in result of their continuous efforts in beautification, litter reduction maintaining positive partnerships with local organizations, educating our youth and strong participation in events. Only 70 of the 370 Keep Texas Beautiful affiliates were awarded this status. This award, given by Keep Texas Beautiful, has recognized Tyler for 12 consecutive years.
Keep Tyler Beautiful attributes their success as an organization to the support they receive from our City leaders and the dedication of their board members. Keep Tyler Beautiful runs many different programs focusing on community beautification, litter reduction, and improving recycling efforts. These programs include, Adopt-a-Spot, annual Great Tyler Cleanup, Park Service Day, Beauty and the Box program, Tyler Recycles Day, and Tyler Against Graffiti (TAG).
