When Caroline Brooks was growing up in Tyler, her parents often had music playing in the house — everything from Queen to Lyle Lovett. By the time she was 8, she was playing the piano and writing songs. She said she can’t remember when music wasn’t an important part of her life.
Today, Ms. Brooks lives in Los Angeles and chases the dream of becoming a nationally known pop singer. With the release of her latest video and single, “Tomorrow, Tonight,” her career seems to be off to a promising start.
Ms. Brooks graces the cover of the new IN Magazine, which hits the newsstands today. Her story is one of several in the July/August edition that spotlights East Texas talent, said Danny Mogle, the magazine’s editor.
“One of my favorite stories is ‘50 Stars of East Texas.’ Entertainment Editor Stewart Smith and I collaborated in identifying the 50 greatest performers (actors, singers and writers) to ever come from here,” Mogle said. “You will be amazed how many of the biggest stars have East Texas roots. I’m anxious to hear if people think we got it right.”
The magazine profiles country music superstar Neal McCoy of Longview and his East Texas Angel Network.
“McCoy never forgot his local roots and now uses his success to help others,” Mogle said.
Doug and Jennifer Flanders of Tyler give a glimpse into their hectic lives. They are the parents of 12 very active children.
“They share their secrets to making a huge household work and why faith plays such an important part of their lives,” Mogle said.
IN covers the best of East Texas in the areas of arts, technology, fashion, living healthy, food, culture and outdoors. Free, IN can be picked up wherever magazines are offered in the area. It also is available online at www.inmagtexas.com.
