Jacksonville man dies in one-vehicle crash in Cherokee County

 

A 74-year-old Jacksonville man was killed shortly after 10 p.m. Monday when his pickup truck went off the road in Cherokee County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the the fatal crash on Farm-to-Market Road 747, southwest of the city of Jacksonville. 

The preliminary crash report indicates Edward Wilbanks was traveling southwest on Farm-to-Market Road 747 when his 1996 Ford Ranger went off the roadway.  

Wilbanks over corrected and ran back across the roadway and struck a pole. The vehicle came to rest in a ditch on the south side of the road.

Wilbanks was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Phillip Grimes. His body was taken to Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
