Two people remained in critical but stable condition after a Thursday night oil tank explosion.

Jeremy Hernandez, 30, and Aaron Archie, 25, both of Smith County, were flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for injuries sustained in the explosion that happened about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 22,100 block of County Road 419 near Hideaway Lake.

Investigations into the cause of the explosion on the private ranch with land leased to D-S-B Properties LLC, an oil production company, are still ongoing, according to Smith County officials.

Smith County Deputy Fire Marshal Trey Glover arrived at the scene and discovered the oil tank on fire. Glover found two men with severe burns sitting inside their vehicle near the oil tank, according to a news release from Smith County.

The Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office, Smith County Sheriff’s Office and the Railroad Commission of Texas are conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.

Emergency crews from Lindale, Dixie and Van also responded to the scene.
