Handgun used in early morning robbery in Tyler; suspect on the loose

Express Lavanderia, a laundry station at 1203 S. Vine Ave. in Tyler, was robbed early Monday morning, according to a news release from the Tyler Police Department.

Officers responded about 4:18 a.m. Monday and spoke to the cashier, who said a black male walked into the business armed with a black handgun. Tyler police said the suspect threatened the clerk with the weapon and ordered her to hand over the money that was in the cash register and safe. After the victim complied with the suspect's demands, he fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

The suspect was described as a short black male with a thin build. He was wearing a mask over his face, a black hoodie type jacket and khaki pants. Officers searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate anyone.

No one was injured during the robbery. This case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Tyler Police Department as soon as possible.
