Calling all former Apache Belles. The Apache Belle Gold, the alumni group of the Tyler Junior College Apache Belles, has established an East Texas Chapter.

The group will have its kickoff event at 6 p.m. today at Coyote Sam's Bar & Grille, 5424 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.

All former Apache Belles living in East Texas are invited to attend, according to a TJC news release.

College President Dr. Mike Metke along with TJC Alumni Association board members will attend and complimentary appetizers and beverages will be served.

The purpose of the Apache Belle Gold East Texas chapter is to unite, inform and involve Apache Belle alumni and friends regionally to promote, protect and preserve the organization.

Started in 1947, the Apache Belles is a high-kicking, precision dance team in its 66th year.

The Apache Belles serve as the college's goodwill ambassadors and have performed for U.S. presidents and dignitaries.

Past performances also include NBA and NFL halftimes, including two Super Bowl halftime appearances, according to the news release.

In the spring, the Apache Belles and Apache Band traveled to Japan where they performed for U.S. military personnel and in Yachiyo City, a Tyler Sister City.

In 2014, the group plans to travel to Seoul, South Korea, to perform for U.S. military personnel.
