Two Tyler churches will give residents an opportunity to have their pets blessed this weekend.
St. Francis Episcopal Church, 3232 Jan Ave. in Tyler, will host its annual Blessing of the Animals at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and Christ Church Episcopal will host its blessing at 3 p.m. Sunday on the southwest corner of Bergfeld Park.
The event is a religious celebration for St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.
Everyone in the community is invited to attend the events and bring their pets of all shapes and sizes. Fur, shells and more are welcome. Organizers ask that pets be properly leashed or caged if needed.
There will not be a full service at the events, but all animals will be blessed and participants are welcome to pray.
At St. Francis, doggy treats will be handed out and certificates of all kinds including biggest, smallest and furriest animals will be awarded.
Last year, 40 animals attended the St. Francis event, and this year Pets Fur People will be attending as well. For more information, visit their website at www.stfrancistyler.org.
