Local air conditioning and heating company, East Texas Refrigeration, is partnering with The Salvation Army to collect new fans for those in need just in time for the heat of the summer.
Each summer, The Salvation Army in Tyler gives out about 60 new fans a week, which means more than 1,000 fans are needed during the summer months.
Last year's Beat the Heat Fan Drive surpassed ETR's goal and resulted in a total of 379 fans.
"We are hoping to make this year's event even better," said Todd Green, owner of ETR, "and we need your help."
ETR is asking the Tyler community to come together and drop off a fan at the Beat the Heat Fan Drive between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday at Bergfeld Park in Tyler.
"Make sure to look for our ETR vans at Bergfeld Park or, if we happened to be in your neighborhood before then, drop off a fan with one of our service technicians," Green said.
Fans can be donated in person at ETR's corporate office (4700 Old Troup Highway) in Tyler, with any ETR Service Technician, or online on at donate.salvation armyusa.org/texas/tyler beattheheatweb.
For a direct link to the donation site, please visit ETRtyler.com and click on the blog at the bottom of the page. For every new fan donated by an ETR friend or loyal customer, ETR will match that donation. Make sure to mention that your donation is for ETR's fan drive.
If you would like to purchase a new fan to donate for the event, mention "The Salvation Army fan drive" at Lowe's, and receive 10 percent off your fan purchase.
