Avalon Faire set for Saturday in Kilgore

The Avalon Faire kicks off Saturday in Kilgore. Avalon Faire is a medieval, renaissance and piratical themed park. It is at 1076 FM 1252 W. in Kilgore.

The fair runs every weekend from Saturday to April 26. Park hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Children under 4 get in free.


Wrestling promotion is headed to Lindale

The North American Wrestling Alliance will be putting on its first show after moving to Lindale at 6 p.m. Saturday, at River's Edge Church, 18492 US Hwy 69 N.

The Palestine Public Library will be holding its Dogwood Book Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The festival will include workshops, signings, a collection of books by local authors and more.

A full military tribute for Medal of Honor recipient Master Sgt. Travis E. Watkins, who was killed during the Korean War, will take place at noon Saturday, at the Gladewater Memorial cemetery.

Lupus fun run and rally set for Saturday

The second 2nd annual Fun Run and Rally for Lupus and Autoimmune Diseases will take place on Saturday at Broughton Park Recreation Center, 801 MLK Blvd in Longview. The event begins runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be a dedication service for a memorial to be placed at the grave of Robert "Red" Arnold at Mason Cemetery in Arp on Saturday, April 11 at 2 p.m. Arnold was a former Texas Ranger and World War II Marine veteran.

Brook Hill is hosting Vietnam War event

The Brook Hill School will be hosting a commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam War at the American History Museum on their campus. The event will take place on April 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. AVTT is bringing in the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall, with 58,300 names etched, honoring those lost in the war.

Women voters group holding discussion

The League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County will be hosting a discussion on at 7 p.m. Monday, at the Tyler Public Library, in order to figure out how Texas can become the No. 1 state for children. Currently Texas sits near the bottom of the list at 43 according to The Annie E. Casey Foundation's National KIDS COUNT Data Book, based on economic well-being, health, education, family and community, even though the state accounted for nearly half of the U.S. child population growth from 2000-2010.

Cascades Golf Club to host charity tourney

The Cascades Golf Club will be hosting the 10th Annual Don R. Pinkerton Memorial Charity Golf Tournament alongside Ladies' Game Day on Monday, April 6. Check-in begins at 1 p.m.

Both events will benefit the Salvation Army. Ladies will be playing Mahjong and Bridge for prizes as well as a helicopter ball drop.

Registration for the Golf Tournament ends March 25. The Ladies' Game Day registration ends April 1.

Charity bridal event and trunk sale slated

The Magnuson Grand Hotel and Conference Center, 3310 Troup Highway, will be hosting a Charity Bridal Event and Trunk Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $5. There also will be a VIP preview event on Friday; admission is $20.

Brides-to-be can find gowns ranging from $75 to $1,800, with an average price of $600, with the option for layaway plans. There will also be giveaways, light snacks and entertainment. The event benefits the nonprofit Brides Against Cancer.
