The holiday season in Tyler kicked into high gear Thursday night with the 34th annual parade put on by the city’s three Rotary Clubs. The event began at 6 p.m., and culminated with the lighting of the Christmas tree downtown as well as an appearance by Santa for the kids.

The parade started on North Broadway Avenue and followed a route down West Ferguson Street, turned left on Bois d’Arc Avenue, and went around the downtown square to create an “L” shape stretching about 1.5 miles back down Spring Avenue. Dozens of sponsors and organizations participated in the event.

Police were on hand to direct as traffic jammed the downtown area.
