A Kilgore High School student who brought an unloaded gun to campus Thursday has been charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in a gun-free zone and taken to the Gregg County Juvenile Center, Kilgore police said.
Students at the school alerted administrators that the student had brought a handgun to school, Kilgore police said. Administrators had located and removed the student and the gun from the rest of the school before police arrived on campus, police said.
At no point were any students in danger, according to the school district.
“We appreciate our students and staff for responding appropriately and helping campus administration and law enforcement take care of this matter in a quick and safe manner,” Kilgore ISD wrote in a statement.
