Hiway 80 Rescue Mission is accepting Care Packages for the Homeless through Friday. The deadline was extended.
The mission is working to collect enough hygiene items to provide for all of its guests at Christmas events.
These practical gifts will make it easier for people who are homeless and in need to care for themselves, according to a mission news release.
Those who would like to donate an entire care package are asked to contribute all of the following items: one adult toothbrush (individually packaged), one toothpaste tube (6.4 fluid ounces), one body wash (18 fluid ounces), one deodorant (1.6 fluid ounces), one ChapStick or other lip balm, one package of disposable razors, one body lotion (21 fluid ounces), one knit hat and gloves and a handwritten note of encouragement (please only include your first name).
Those who do not want to contribute an entire package, may donate one or more of the listed items in any amount.
Donated items should be placed in a plastic shopping bag and dropped off at the donation sites around East Texas.
A full list of drop-off locations in Tyler, Longview and other East Texas cities can be found at kvne.com/carepackagesforthehomeless2014/.
The care packages will be distributed to men and women at the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission's Christmas event.
The mission will accept monetary donations to cover the cost of purchasing care package items.
Christian radio stations 89.5 KVNE and 91.3 KGLY are partnering with the rescue mission in this endeavor.
