Community members are invited to join the Lone Star Military Resource Group and Lone Star Military Farmers later this month as they honor military members, first responders and their families, event coordinator Julianne Sanford recently announced.

Lone Star USA Celebration 2013 is scheduled for Oct. 17 through 20 at KE Bushman's Celebration Center, 1565 Farm-to-Market Road 2493 East in Bullard.

Ms. Sanford said the goal is to honor veterans, first responders and others "who provide safety and security for Americans on a daily basis."

"We just want to be able to say ‘thank you' to them," she said.

The event also is to provide a family fun and educational environment, she said, and to allow veterans to meet other service members in their area.

Festivities are scheduled to kick off Oct. 17 with an escort of the American Veterans Traveling Tribute. Ms. Sanford said the escort will leave at 3 p.m. from Chili's in Jacksonville before heading to Palestine, Rusk, back to Jacksonville and then to the KE Bushman's Celebration Center in Bullard.

The next day, about 200 children are expected to participate in a wreath ceremony.

She said Korean War veterans will also be on hand that day. According to the schedule, Caitlyn Brette is slated to perform at 6 p.m. followed by BlackTop Mojo.

On Oct. 19, a 5K race is set to take place at the Kiepersol Estates Vineyards in Tyler, and a golf tournament is set for Oak Hurst Golf Course in Bullard, Ms. Sanford said. She said a Zumbathon is also scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. at KE Bushman's Celebration Center, and there will be a working dog demonstration at 11 a.m.

She said all types of dogs will be involved, and attendees will get to see them work with their handler.

According to a news release, there will also be speakers that Saturday, including motivational speaker Ryan Ehmann.

On Oct. 20, Ms. Sanford said there will be a field chapel service, along with a flag retirement ceremony, which people are welcome to bring flags for.

She said people also are asked to bring a picnic lunch and come together for fellowship after church.

Ms. Sanford said some activities, such as the 5K and golf tournament, require entry fees.

"I'm just really, really excited about this year's event," she added.
