The city of Tyler has updated its building codes to comply with a new state law.

The Tyler City Council approved changes to the codes on Aug. 28, at the recommendation of Chief Building Official Tim Johnson.

The move came in response to Texas House Bill 2439, which limits the amount of restrictions that cities can add to local building codes.

Johnson said it’s unlikely that builders or consumers would notice a difference under the changes, which he said were a clarification.

Johnson said the main point of the ordinance is to acknowledge the Legislature’s action.
