Cherokee County officials found a missing boy after he was on his own for hours in Alto.
Five-year-old Cason Truitte Rice went missing on Tuesday.
He was last seen by his grandmother at 1:30 a.m., when she got up to check on him. When she got up between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., the boy had gone missing from her home, which is on Evans Street in Alto, according to Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell.
A teddy bear was found near the home, and officials believe the boy wandered away from the house, Campbell said.
He was found safe just after noon on Tuesday.
As part of the search, police set up a perimeter. Search dogs and a helicopter were called to help with the search.
The Alto Police Department was the lead agency in the case and was assisted by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Rusk, Alto, Reklaw and Gallatin volunteer fire departments also assisted with the search.
