A Chandler man died Wednesday morning after striking a highway sign and culvert on Texas Highway 31 west of Athens.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety, Tyler James Harris, 23, was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang eastbound on SH-31 toward the city of Athens when he veered to the left for an unknown reason and slightly into the center median with the left two tires. Troopers responded to the crash at 5:34 a.m. Wednesday.
Harris, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, then overcorrected to the right, crossed both eastbound lanes and then went off the road into the highway sign and hit a driveway culvert as well. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DPS.
