CARTHAGE -- First United Methodist Church of Carthage is sorting through options after a worker discovered on Wednesday morning the ceiling in the sanctuary had collapsed. It happened during the night and no one was hurt, but the damage was heavy and the sanctuary is unusable.
The church is making arrangements to go on with the Sunday worship service in an alternate location. Pastor Keefe Cropper said the service will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday in the church's activity center, which it calls the Sanctuasium.
Cropper said the community has been very supportive and thanked everyone for their prayers and assistance.
He estimated the repairs will take at least three months and he hopes they can be completed by Christmas.
