The Bullard High School Panther Marching Band received First Division "Superior" ratings from all the judges at a recent state marching contest.

The band competed in the National Association of Military Marching Bands State Marching Contest on Nov. 2 at Stephen F. Austin State University's Homer Bryce Stadium.

The three judges praised the band for its good sounds and energy, posture and horn carriage, great ensemble skills, stride and drill design, among other things, according to a band news release.

The competition featured military bands from around East Texas, as well as the Beaumont and Houston areas.

The public is invited to hear the award-winning band at its annual Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 in Bullard High School's Audry Owens Auditorium.

The band is directed by Gary Jordan and assisted by Chelsye Emmons, Gehrig Blankenship and R.J. Morgan.
