The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has issued a boil-water order for customers of the Edom Water Supply Corp.
The order was issued after a water main break around 7:30 p.m. Monday. Edom Water Supply Corp. must notify customers to boil water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking).
The notice affects only customers northeast of Edom, according to a news release issued by the water supplier.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking or other human consumption purposes, according to the news release, and the water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers.
