Coming off the success of their inaugural bodybuilding show last summer, Alicia and Will Burgin plan to bring back the event.
The Purebody Nutrition Extravaganza is scheduled July 20 at Caldwell Auditorium. Competitor check-in and weigh-in begin July 19. Entrants are required to take a polygraph test the day of the event. The July 20 prejudging starts at 10 a.m. and the night show at 6 p.m.
This year, organizers are adding another category: women's physique. It's a level above figure and one below bodybuilding. Other categories include bikini, figure and bodybuilding.
Sanctioned by the National GYM Association, the contest is eligible to natural athletes only.
"We're supporting natural," Mrs. Burgin said. "It's just about the body, not the politics of (bodybuilding). I want to make sure that people know there is a natural way to do it. You don't have to go into steroids."
Last year, 32 people of varying ages competed in the bodybuilding show, and 465 tickets were sold.
"I'm hoping it will be bigger than last year," Mrs. Burgin said. "I'm expecting more because everyone loved it and had a good time."
There is no current count of people entered in the contest. Bodybuilders typically wait until the last minute to register for bodybuilding shows because they want to see what happens with their training regimen, Mrs. Burgin said.
Tickets cost $10 at each show for general admission and $25 for reserved. Children younger than 10 accompanied by an adult are admitted free.
