The 9th Annual Thunder in the Pines Motorcycle Rally will be held this weekend in Jacksonville.

Members of the Jacksonville Police Department on its citizen’s police academy organize the annual event. All proceeds benefit victims of child abuse.

“We are trying to do our duty to raise money to help victims of child abuse,” Jacksonville Police Sgt. Daniel Franklin said. “We know it’s a (serous) crime and it, unfortunately, happens everyday, and we are trying to do out part to prevent it. “

The event kicks off Friday with a benefit ride. Riders will be at 6 p.m. at Love’s Lookout and parade down U.S. Highway 69 to the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce St., where there will be a biker ball and dinner. The ball will run from 7 to 10 p.m., and include dinner and alcohol. Lady Chazz and the Tramps will perform.

The rally will take over Commerce Street on Saturday with a chili cook off, bike show and live music.

Bikers can participate in a poker run, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or biker game.

A torch performer, who was featured on the show Full Throttle Saloon, will perform at 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Admission is $20 per person on both days.
