Chris Dean, owner of All Tune and Lube, in Tyler, had a vision of giving back to local law enforcement officers after seeing another tragic act of crime towards a police officer in the news.
The recent shooting death of Houston officer Darren Goforth made national headlines. Goforth, a 10-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, was shot in the back and head multiple times while pumping gas into his police car at a suburban-Houston gas station last month. Law enforcement across the country have been on high alert for unprovoked attacks
"I just was wishing I could do something for them," Dean said. "Several of my friends are in law enforcement and I know they don't feel safe going to work."
Dean is welcoming all Smith County police officers with ID in hand to receive an oil change and new filter to their personal vehicles Monday through Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at All Tune and Lube, 3315 Old Troup Highway, in Tyler.
"It's really just a small token of what I can do," Dean said.
"I know these guys don't want to go into work and their wives don't want them to go - it's like when you lay down at night you have some sense of security, but these guys don't," Dean said. "They are the reason we have that security."
