An estimated 200 people showed up Monday morning to wait in line, hoping to be among the first 100 customers to win free pizza for a year at the Old Chicago Pizza grand opening.
"I'm here for the free pizza. I did this for a Schlotzsky's grand opening and saw this as another opportunity," Steven Meisner said, adding that he had been in line since midnight.
Restaurants usually are busy on opening day, but locals started waiting in line long before the restaurant opened its doors Monday. Customers were seen gathering around restaurant, and some brought their own chairs and had been waiting to be among the first to enter the new pizza joint. The first one hundred customers to eat at the restaurant on opening day received vouchers for free pizza once a month for the next year.
The restaurant, which began as a hangout spot for a few friends in Boulder, Colorado, offers a menu featuring taproom fare, pizzas, burgers and a variety of craft beer. Other Texas locations include Killeen, Waco and Garland.
