On Tuesday, The Genesis Group will celebrate the official opening of the Phirst Building, its new 17,000-square-foot headquarters in Corporate Green at Eagles Nest, 5800 Eagles Nest Blvd. Genesis, a global software company, is the first tenant of Corporate Green, which will house state-of-the-art "Class A" office facilities with eco-friendly sustainability. The 30-acre office park will be a home for businesses that want to be environmentally responsible. It is owned by GenCore,LLC, a Tyler-based real estate development company. Unique features of the Phirst Building include a low-energy footprint due to LED lighting, a unique HVAC system, extensive green building techniques and a total building management network. The property also houses a 36,000-gallon cistern to store rainwater from the building roof and parking areas for use in irrigation of the site landscape. The Phirst site also boasts an electric car charging station, gazebos and a creek for relaxation, and a community garden for employees. Genesis, established in 1989, provides software tools for two-way radio network operators worldwide so they will know and understand the performance of their networks. Two-way radio operators include ambulance EMTs, police, other security workers, personnel in manufacturing, chemical plants, college campuses and municipalities. The software created by Genesis allows these systems to monitor, manage, display, archive and report on their communication system data in order to plan and enhance their systems.
Come Together Trading, a fair trade company in Bergfeld Center, completed an expansion. After Spinout moved to a new building on Old Jacksonville Highway, Come Together Trading expanded into the vacated space, about doubling in size. Owner Terry Marshall said the store has expanded its offering of unique products made by people living in underdeveloped Third World countries. It includes a new children's clothing section featuring hand-dyed, hand-batiked clothes made by Global Mamas from Ghana, West Africa. It also offers new women's dresses, skirts, and blouses from a women's cooperative in India, and a larger home decor section featuring kitchen accessories as well as hand-made blankets, throws and pillows made from recycled Saris in India and Bangladesh. Summit Industrial Products was named as one of the 2013 Best Companies to Work for in Texas. Summit, which is a part of Klober Lubrication based in Munich, Germany, has been named the 20th best company to work for in Texas in the mid-sized business category, which includes companies with between 50 to 100 employees.
Officials with Suddenlink, the local cable broadband services provider, announced that 10 Tyler employees — Alex Bolton, Bobby Bonnette, Ginger Ring, John Lancaster, Lee Pinion, Mark Morrison, Michelle Thomason, Regina Swearengen, Stephanie McWilliamsand Veda Williams– earned the company's prestigious President's Club Award. The award recognizes Suddenlink's top performers in sales and sales support. They are among 68 employees to be chosen for the President's Club for 2012 performance. Suddenlink employs 6,000 people nationwide, but Tyler is home for Suddenlink'slargest employee base.
The National Business Incubation Association named Fiber Network Solutions as the 2013 Outstanding Incubator Graduate in the nontechnology category during NBIA's International Conference on Business Incubation in Boston. A graduate of the Tyler Area Business Incubator, Fiber Network Solutions provides fiber optic and electrical services in the renewable energy industry. The company's experience includes work on more than 4,600 wind turbines for organizations such as GE, Siemens and Mitsubishi. Established in 2000, Fiber Network Solutions entered the Tyler Area Business Incubator in 2003. The incubator provided mentoring and advice and facilitated connections between it and other skilled companies that helped with business marketing, brochures and administrative support services. NBIA estimates that in 2011, North American incubators assisted about 49,000 start-up companies that provided full-time employment for nearly 200,000 workers and generated annual revenue of almost $15 billion. Approximately 7,000 business incubators operate worldwide. The Tyler Area Business Incubator was created to enhance the success of new and expanding businesses through counseling, employee training and other services. A creative consortium including Tyler Junior College, the City of Tyler and the Tyler Economic Development Council joined together to form the program. At the incubator, small businesses receive low-cost start-up, immediate access to technical training at the TJC West Campus and support from the Small Business Development Center.
From 5-8 p.m. on May 9, Longview Mall and Broadway Square Mall will provide a free evening of relaxation and fun in honor of national Mom's NiteOut.
