Calling all playwrights! Tyler Civic Theatre is seeking submissions for its annual New Play Festival.
The seventh annual New Play Festival will be held in the Rogers Theatre on Saturday, August 25.
Playwrights, regardless of age or experience, are asked to submit original scripts to the Tyler Civic Theatre until Monday, June 25. Plays will be evaluated, with several being selected for presentation before an audience at TCTC. Lucinda Kittrell and Mike Hargrove, festival coordinators, will begin receiving submissions May 7.
“We have had plays entered from all over Texas, Louisiana and as far away as New York,” said Mrs. Kittrell.
Scripts should be unpublished and suitable to East Texas community theatre standards. Sections of a work in progress, such as one act of a multi-act play, are welcome.
Tyler Civic Theatre encourages writers’ groups and teachers of writing to inform their members and students of this unique opportunity.
Adult playwrights (over the age of 18) may submit plays for General/Adult audiences or for Children/Teen audiences. Tyler Civic Theatre Center continues to champion children’s theatre, by inviting junior playwrights to submit plays for children or older teen audiences. Junior playwrights should be 12-18 years old and a student in junior high or high school.
The deadline for script submission is June 25. Scripts will be evaluated by a panel of persons experienced in Community Theater.
The scripts chosen will be read for the public in a readers’ theatre format at the 2012 New Play Festival on Saturday, August 25, in the Rogers Theatre at 400 Rose Park Drive, Tyler. All are welcome to come and go between readings or stay for selected plays, no admission is charged.
