ORLANDO, Fla. — No. 2 Texas and No. 3 Wake Forest will meet on Sunday for the NCAA Division I Men's national tennis championship.
The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. (Central) at the USTA National Campus and will be broadcast on the Tennis Channel.
In the semifinals on Saturday, the Longhorns defeated No. 4 Florida, 4-2, with the Demon Deacons downing rival North Carolina, 4-3.
Texas senior Leonardo Telles got the clinching point to send Texas to the finals for the first time in 2008. It was also the Longhorns' 28th win of the season, marking the most for Texas since 1974 (31).
"I think there were a lot of difference makers today," interim head coach Bruce Berque said. "One was the doubles. I was really proud of the way the guys stepped up in doubles, especially at No. 3 doubles. It was an up and down see-saw match, but at the end they really stepped up and played aggressive tennis. Then, of course, the thing we finished with was Leo Telles. That's like the third or fourth time he's done that for us this year. How he stepped up, attacked and played big, in a big moment was pretty impressive. I couldn't be happier for him and the seniors and the whole team."
The quarterfinal matches on Thursday: No. 4 Wake Forest 4, No. 5 Virginia 2; No. 2 Texas 4, No. 10 TCU 1; No. 9 North Carolina 4, No. 1 Ohio State 2; and No. 3 Florida 4, No. 6 Baylor 0.
