With the annual KilGogh Arts Festival coming together, Kilgore Main Street Manager Melida Heien is ready to make downtown pop.
Marking the anniversary of Vincent van Gogh’s birth on March 30, the arts weekend, March 27-28, will include an exclusive gala and public art displays activities for children and an auction, organizers said.
Organizers hope many artists will take part in the event downtown.
“Anyone that has artistic talent in a variety of mediums is welcome to join us,” Heien said. “We’re not necessarily looking for one particular type of art. Everyone has something different that they like. For example, I tend to gravitate toward things that have elements of pop culture, but not everyone likes that.”
Heien also is recruiting performers.
“If anyone wants to perform, they can call me,” she said.
The festival will include student and adult art competitions.
In the adult competition — each artist must contribute a piece for the event’s auction.
The Texan Theater will be the site of the Wine POP Gallery Gala at 7 p.m. on March 27. Admission to the fund-raising gala is $25.
Admission to the rest of the art festival is free. Organizers are asking attendees to bring nonperishable food items to donate to Helping Hands food charity.
