Meals on Wheels East Texas is using the occasion of the Super Bowl to draw attention to its mission of providing homebound seniors and the disabled with meals.
As part of its Souper Bowl Sunday promotion, the nonprofit agency in Tyler is asking churches, community organizations and individuals to take time this Sunday to donate or commit to serving as a volunteer, said Mandi Lovett, the marketing and special events coordinator for the organization.
"Millions of people from around the world will tune in to the Super Bowl game while enjoying an abundance of food, friendship and fellowship," according to a news release from Lovett. "At the same time there are many homebound seniors and community members with disabilities who wonder where their next meal will come from."
Meals on Wheels East Texas delivers meals to the residences of more than 3,000 homebound residents.
