When Lindale Community Theater stages the popular comedy "Daddy's Dyin' (Who's Got the Will)," someone very familiar with the story will be in the audience.
Del Shores, the play's author, will be in town for opening night Friday and to hold workshops Saturday and Sunday, said Beth Walker, the show's director.
"It (his visit) has been in the works for more than a year," Ms. Walker said.
She said she made contact with Shores through a mutual friend.
After the opening night's performance, Shores will take the stage for a question-and-answer session with the audience.
On Saturday he is set to lead a scene study workshop.
"I love my scene study workshops because I get to do what I love most - direct actors," Shores said in a statement issued through the theater. "This is where you push yourself, choosing the scenes that challenge you."
On Sunday he will lead a workshop designed to help actors with auditions.
Shores has written, directed and produced works for film, television and theater. His career took off in 1987 with "Daddy's Dyin' (Who's Got The Will?)." It's the story of what happens to a family in a small Texas town that gathers to await its patriarch's death and to see what they might be inheriting.
Lindale Community Theater's production is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday and also 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 and 6 and 2 p.m. Feb. 7 at the theater, 109 W. Hubbard St., Lindale.
