Here’s what’s hitting the silver screen this weekend.

“White House Down”

What’s it about? Cale (Channing Tatum) must find a way to rescue his daughter with the president of the United States in tow (Jamie Foxx) when terrorists attack the White House.

Will it be good? I guess it depends on one’s definition of “good.” It looks entertaining, that’s for sure. If nothing else, director Roland Emmerich (“Independence Day”) knows how to explode the White House better than anyone. Should be a fun, if goofy, time as an imitation of the “Die Hard” formula.

“The Heat”

What’s it about? FBI agent Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is paired with Boston cop Mullins (Melissa McCarthy). The two (comedically) clash as they try to take down a drug lord.

Will it be good? Director Paul Feig had a massive hit with “Bridesmaids” and that certainly in no small part due to his use of McCarthy’s comedic chops. She and Bullock look to make a pretty great mismatched pair, so this could well end up being one of the better comedic outings of the summer.
