Obesity is a major problem facing our children today.
That’s why P.E. teachers at Tyler ISD are making sure exercise and sports are still a priority and something the kids enjoy.
“We practice three days a week. I practice at home. It helps you get in shape, fit and helps you have fun.”
The physical education program Caldwell student Madeline Perkins refers to is the year-end track meet for fourth- and fifth-grade TISD students.
The students start training after spring break with running and learning different track and field events like relays.
“It also teaches the kids exercise is not bad,” Caldwell Elementary P.E. teacher Dyann Kemp said. “It’s good for them, and hopefully this will instill in them this is something they can do for a lifetime.”
Teachers say the program teaches good sportsmanship, too.
