With the task of win or stay home from the postseason, Tyler Lee senior Elliott Davison was determined his senior year would include a playoff berth.

Davison and his teammates came through to register a 42-14 win over Mesquite Horn and clinch the bid for the postseason.

Davison picked off two passes and added five tackles while patrolling the Lee secondary that limited the Horn passing attack.

For his performance, Davison has been named the Peltier Kia Tyler Defensive Player of the Week for the 11th week of the high school football season.

He will be featured on a poster, sponsored by Peltier Kia Tyler, in Friday’s Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Previous winners were Chapel Hill senior linebacker Adrian Lacy (Week 1), Troup senior linebacker Max Hale (Week 2), Grand Saline senior linebacker Bryce Smith (Week 3), Tyler Lee senior defensive end/linebacker Jamal Ligon (Week 4), John Tyler junior free safety Travion Ates (Week 5), Gladewater senior middle linebacker Zach Villarreal (Week 6), Kilgore junior free safety Donovan Adkins (Week 7), Grapeland junior linebacker Cooper Sheridan (Week 8), Brook Hill senior defensive back Seth Moss (Week 9) and Alto senior linebacker Cayle Irvin (Week 10).

On the season Davison has 111 tackles and six interceptions.

Davison and the Red Raiders will meet Waco Midway in a Class 6A Division II bi-district at 7 p.m. Friday at Panther Stadium in Hewitt.

The winner of the Lee vs. Midway game will play either McKinney or Garland Naaman Forest next week in area.

I am a native Tylerite and I grew up reading the Tyler Morning Telegraph and The Tyler Courier-Times. My parents took both the morning and afternoon papers. I came to work here 35 years ago at the age of 23, right after college.
