Animal neglect

The City of Tyler will consider adopting an ordinance that would make animal neglect a crime.

In the agenda posted for Wednesday's City Council meeting, the council will be asked to consider adopting an ordinance that would amend city code to add new definitions of adequate food, water and shelter, necessary veterinary care and sanitary conditions. The ordinance would also create a Class C misdemeanor of Animal Neglect. The agenda says that the proposed ordinance would "hold persons in control of animals responsible for providing conditions to ensure proper animal care."

The Tyler City Council will meet 9 a.m. on Wednesday at City Hall, 212 N. Bonner Ave.

Residents wishing to address the council must fill out a speaker card at the receptionist's desk outside of the City Council Chamber.
