LONGVIEW 46, JOHN TYLER 39

LONGVIEW — Longview was looking for a spark after three dud quarters Friday night against John Tyler.

Phillip Washington provided that offensively and Jaylin Brown spearheaded a defense that mounted a Lobo comeback.

Washington dropped all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter and Brown did a little bit of everything as Longview escaped Lobo Coliseum with a 46-39 win over John Tyler in District 11-6A action.

Longview improves to a 16-4 on the season and 2-1 in league play. John Tyler, meanwhile, drops to 9-11 and 0-3.

Brown finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks for the Lobos, who trailed 21-16 at halftime. Washington had four rebounds and two assists and Malik Henry had nine points seven rebounds and an assist.

Jason Bush finished with four points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block for Longview, which held the advantage on the boards, 33-23.

The Lobos shot 16 of 28 from the free-throw line.

ROCKWALL 70, TYLER LEE 56

Devin Johnson hit for 28 points but the Tyler Lee Red Raiders could not overcome an early deficit, falling to the Rockwall Yellowjackets, 70-56, on Friday in a District 11-6A basketball game at the REL Varsity Gymnasium.

Johnson had eight 3-pointers in the contest, including six in the fourth quarter.

The Red Raiders (9-14, 0-3) play at North Mesquite on Tuesday. Rockwall (15-8, 2-1) is scheduled to host Mesquite on Tuesday.

BROWNSBORO 59, CORSICANA 55, OT

BROWNSBORO — The Brownsboro Bears rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime and eventually capture a 59-55 decision over the Corsicana Tigers in a boys basketball game Friday afternoon.

Corsicana led 37-26 at halftime. The Bears outscored the Tigers 16-9 in the third period to pull within 46-42 and then forced OT by outscoring Corsicana 10-6 in the fourth period as the teams were tied at 52-52 at the end of regulation.

Brownsboro (12-5) returns to play next Friday, hosting Wills Point at 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS

HAWKINS 42, BIG SANDY 33

BIG SANDY — Raeli Smith scored 13 points and the Hawkins Lady Hawks opened District 16-2A basketball play with a 42-33 victory over the Big Sandy Lady- Cats on Friday.

Smith added five rebounds and five steals. Harlie Conover scored nine points for the Lady Hawks with Emily Moore and Jaycee Cheshire adding eight and seven rebounds, respectively.

Also scoring for Hawkins were Alyssa Eddington (6), Emily Hodges (2), Moore (4), Christian Harris (2), Cheshire (2) and Megan Haney (2).

Airikah Pippins led Big Sandy with 11 points. Other scorers for the LadyCats were Jerricka Hare (7), Haylee Cook (5), Gabby Beason (5), Taylor Dodez (4) and Megan Jerden (1).

Big Sandy visits Gary on Tuesday, while Hawkins plays host to Union Grove. Both games have 5 p.m. scheduled starts.

MARTIN'S MILL 70, CUMBY 13

MARTIN'S MILL — Mollie Daniel hit for 18 points to lead the No. 1 Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs to a 70-13 victory over the Cumby Lady Trojans in a District 14-2A girls basketball opener.

Briley Moon followed with 16 points for the 24-1 Lady Mustangs. Calli Camacho added 12 points with Taylor Sparks pitching in 11.

Bailey Busby led the 7-9 Lady Trojans with six points.

Martin's Mill is scheduled to play at Campbell on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Cumby plays host to Quinlan Boles on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

NO. 8 GRACE 62, BULLARD BROOK HILL 21

In her first game of the season, Jordan Tauscher scored 22 points to help lead the Grace Community Lady Cougars to a 62-21 win over the Bullard Brook Hill Lady Guard on Friday in a TAPPS District 3-5A girls basketball opener at the Grace gym.

Tauscher had shoulder surgery in August.

All nine of the Lady Cougars scored as the No. 8 TAPPS Class 5A squad improved to 14-6 overall.

Addie Daughtry added 11 points for Grace.

Ke'Airra Christopher led the Lady Guard with eight points, while Grace Helmers added six.

TROUP 50, SABINE 48

TROUP — Troup outscored Sabine by 12 in the fourth quarter, rallying for a 50-48 District 15-3A girls basketball victory Friday night.

Troup (14-6, 4-1) trailed 34-24 entering the final period.

Asia Parker led the Lady Tigers with 20 points, along with eight rebounds and four steals. Ty Moon had 13 points and five rebounds. Kori Minnix had a near double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.

Kirsten Stuart led the Lady Cardinals with 24 points.

Troup plays West Rusk in New London next Friday, while Sabine plays host to West Rusk on Tuesday in Liberty City.

LONGVIEW 63, JOHN TYLER 34

The John Tyler Lady Lions fell in the first quarter and could not catch up as Longview scored a 63-34 win on Friday in a District 11-6A girls basketball game at Boulter Middle School.

Za'Kiyah Jones and Jazmyne Hicks led the Lady Lions with 11 points each.

Destiny McAfee led the Lady Lobos with 20 points.

JT (9-10, 1-4) is at Mesquite Horn on Tuesday, while the Lady Lobos (18-7, 2-3) are scheduled to play host to Rockwall-Heath the same day.

ROCKWALL 36, TYLER LEE 24

ROCKWALL — In a battle of league leaders, No. 20 Rockwall rallied for a 36-24 win over the Tyler Lee Lady Raiders on Friday in a District 11-6A girls basketball game.

Lee (19-5, 3-2) led 7-3 after the first quarter, but the Lady Jackets (17-5, 5-0) rallied to take the win.

Ja'Kyala Bowie led Lee with nine points, while Jordan Mathis led Rockwall with 10.

REL plays host to North Mesquite on Tuesday, while Rockwall visits Mesquite.
