MESQUITE 57, TYLER LEE 43

MESQUITE — The Mesquite Skeeters rallied past the Robert E. Lee Red Raiders in scoring a 57-43 District 11-6A decision on Tuesday at Mesquite High School.

Lee led 19-18 at halftime.

Jamal Jones led the Red Raiders (9-13, 0-2) with eight points with Devin Johnson adding seven. Bryce Campbell, Matt Wade and Curtis Jones each scored six points.

Cody LeBlanc led the Skeeters (10-9, 2-0) with 15 points with Felix Benson (12) and Aaron Sanders (10) following.

The Red Raiders return to play on Friday, hosting the Rockwall Yellowjackets at the REL Varsity Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Skeeters will travel to Rockwall-Heath on Friday.

BULLARD BROOK HILL 61, BIG SANDY 56

BIG SANDY — Jared Johnson had a game-high 25 points and Reid Hill added 18 as the Bullard Brook Hill Guard scored a 61-56 win over Big Sandy on Tuesday in a battle of state-ranked boys basketball teams.

The Guard (13-7) is ranked No. 8 in TAPPS Class 5A, while Big Sandy (11-4) is No. 4 in UIL Class 2A.

Dave Roberts added 10 points for the Guard.

Joshua Shipman led the Wildcats with 19 points, while Jordan Oswalt added 11. Big Sandy's Josiah Johnson missed the game due to injury.

Brook Hill returns to play on Friday, visiting Grace in an 8 p.m. start.

Big Sandy travels to Longview to meet Spring Hill on Friday with varsity tipoff about 6:30 p.m.

HAWKINS 68, UNION HILL 34

BETTIE — Camron Taylor had a game-high 25 points in leading the Hawkins Hawks to a 68-34 win over the Union Hill Bulldogs on Tuesday in non-district boys basketball game.

Everin Gipson (15) and Tristian Garrett (13) were also in double digits scoring for the Hawks.

It was the opening game for the Bulldogs, who play host to East Texas Christian Academy on Jan. 9.

Hawkins will play host to Tyler HEAT on Friday. JV is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow.

TROUP 61, TYLER CUMBERLAND 53

Jared Jackson swished the nets for 33 points and teammate Shane Thomas added 12 as the Troup Tigers defeated the Tyler Cumberland Academy Knights 61-53 on Tuesday in a District 15-3A boys basketball game.

Troup improved to 20-2 on the season and 2-0 in district play, while Cumberland fell to 8-12 and 0-2.

Caleb Watts led the Knights with 15 points, while Nate Navarro had nine. Greg Kennedy (9 points) and Sincere Norman (8) were next.

Troup plays host to Sabine on Friday with the varsity scheduled to tipoff at 7:30 p.m.

Cumberland is scheduled to play West Rusk in New London on Friday. The varsity is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS

ROCKWALL-HEATH 40, JOHN TYLER 37

ROCKWALL — The John Tyler Lady Lions dropped a 40-37 District 11-6A girls basketball game to the Rockwall- Heath Lady Hawks on Tuesday.

The Lady Lions fell to 9-9 overall and 1-3 in district play, while the Lady Hawks improve to 12-10 and 2-2.

JT returns to play on Friday, meeting Longview at Boulter Middle School. Freshman and JV action are set for 5 p.m. with the varsity slated to start at 6:30 p.m.

John Tyler is playing home games at Boulter due to construction on the JT campus.

Rockwall-Heath plays at Mesquite on Friday.

CHAPEL HILL 61, WHITEHOUSE 40

WHITEHOUSE — Karlea Duhon, Brittley Maddox and Ty'Liyah Moore all scored in double figures, lifting Chapel Hill to a 61-40 win over Whitehouse on Tuesday in a nondistrict girls basketball game at Wildcat Arena.

Duhon led with 19 points, followed by Maddox (18) and Moore (12). Shelbee Denson contributed eight points.

Jazmin Ray and India Shackelford led the LadyCats with nine points each with Makayla Moore and Hope Casel adding eight points apiece.

Chapel Hill (15-8) opens District 15-4A play on Friday against Gladewater in New Chapel Hill.

Whitehouse plays host to Nacogdoches on Friday in the District 17-5A opener.

NO. 1 MARTIN'S MILL 61, NO. 11 CANTON 35

CANTON — In a matchup of state-ranked teams, the Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs scored a 61-35 win over the Canton Eaglettes on Tuesday in a girls basketball game.

Martin's Mill (23-1) is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, while Canton (19-6) is rated No. 11 in Class 4A.

Abby Orrick led four Lady Mustangs in double figures with 18 points. Calli Camacho added 16 points with Briley Moon and Molly Daniel adding 10 each.

Ashley Wood paced the Eaglettes with 9 points.

Martin's Mill plays host to Cumby at 6 p.m. Friday.

Canton will meet Emory Rains in Canton on Friday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

TROUP 63, CUMBERLAND 34

Kori Minnix hit for 23 points and Ty Moon added 18 as the Troup Lady Tigers defeated the Tyler Cumberland Lady Knights 63-34 on Tuesday in a District 15-3A girls basketball game.

Troup improves to 14-6 on the season and 3-1 in district.

Minnix added nine rebounds for the Lady Tigers. Others scoring for Troup were: Jayla Starks (8), Emily Neel (6), Renee Dennis (4) and Asia Parker (4). Starks added eight rebounds with Alyssa Hearon grabbing seven and Parker six. Dennis had four steals.

Troup plays host to Sabine on Friday, while Cumberland meets West Rusk in New London. Both varsity games are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

HAWKINS 56, FRUITVALE 25

HAWKINS — Jaycee Cheshire and Raeli Smith each scored 12 points in leading the Hawkins Lady Hawks to a 56-25 win over the Fruitvale LadyCats on Tuesday in a non-district girls basketball game.

Also contributing for Hawkins were Alyssa Eddington (7 points, 2 rebounds, 4 steals), Emily Moore (6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 assists), Harlie Conover (8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 assists), Emily Hodges (4 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists), Carolyn Searer (4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) and Christian Harris (3 points).

Hawkins plays at Big Sandy on Friday. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.

Fruitvale is scheduled to play at Avinger on Friday. Varsity is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

COLLEGE WOMEN HINDS CC 85, TJC 76

BOSSIER CITY, La. — Hinds (Mississippi) Community College scored an 85-76 win over the Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies on Tuesday in the Bossier Classic at Bossier Parish Community College.

TJC (8-5) will take on No. 3 New Mexico Junior College at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Bossier City.

Hinds improves to 8-0 on the season.
