BANGOR, Maine — Trace Reed’s bases-clearing double put Rose Capital East ahead to stay in the seventh inning as the Texans rallied from a six-run deficit to score an 8-6 win over Talbot County, Md., on Tuesday in the Senior League World Series.

Reed’s three-RBI blast was the key hit in a four-run seventh inning that pushed the Tyler team ahead of the Maryland squad at Mansfield Stadium.

Tyler East (2-0), which has all but clinched a spot in the semifinals, plays Notre-Dame-de-Grace of Montreal (0-2) at 7 p.m. today. A win assures the East Texans a spot in Friday’s semifinals.

The Canadian squad was scheduled to play Tuesday, but rain forced its game with Italy to be moved to 8 a.m. Thursday. Maryland (1-1) is slated to play Brewer, Maine at 4 p.m. today.

The Texas vs. Maryland game was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (central), but rained forced an hour delay. Twice rain forced delays and with Tolbot County holding a 6-4 lead, the game was delayed again for about three-and-a-half hours.

Finally, the teams re-started around 5:30 p.m. That’s when Tyler East got going again.

Down to their final three outs and behind 6-4, Tanner Bandel led off the seventh with a bunt single. Seth Gibson followed with a double and Jacob Spitzer singled to load the bases.

Reed, on an 0-2 pitch, belted a double over the left-fielder’s head to knock in three runs and give Tyler East a 7-6 lead.

Later Reed scored on Jacob Wadel’s grounder that was misplayed and Tyler was ahead 8-6. In the bottom of the seventh, Tyler East closer Canaan Klaassen got the final three outs to complete the comeback.

Tyler East trailed 6-0 before getting four runs in the fourth. In the bottom of the inning, the Tyler defense came through as pitcher Spitzer induced an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded.

Taylor Slaughenhoupt grounded to second baseman Braden Nelson who tossed to shortstop Gibson who tagged second and threw to first baseman Cade Suggs for the double dip.

Along with doubles from Gibson and Reed, Sawyer Dorsey added a two-bagger. Along with Reed’s three RBIs, Dorsey, Nelson, Suggs and Wadle knocked in runs.

Dustin Jones led Maryland with three hits, while Chance Crissinger and Tayvon Blake had two hits apiece.

Gibson got the win on the mound, while Klaassen got the save.
