LONGVIEW — Garrett Smallwood threw for 293 yards and Dalton Santos continued his reign of terror on defense as the Van Vandals played spoiler to the Spring Hill homecoming festivities Friday night, topping the Panthers 28-7 at Panther Stadium.
Santos scored his sixth touchdown on only his 12th carry of the season on a 5-yard run to give the Vandals (5-0) a 7-0 lead with under two minutes left in the first quarter. He scooped up a fumble in the fourth quarter and took it 10 yards for his second touchdown of the contest.
Smallwood went 11-for-15 in the first half, throwing for 171 yards with a 70-yard touchdown strike to Rigo Lemus in the second quarter.
For Spring Hill (1-4), Landry Lee threw for 93 yards and rushed for 58. Matt Ballard had four catches for 44 yards. Spencer Hendricks picked up his first touchdown run of the season, scoring on a five yard for Spring Hill’s only points of the game.
Both teams are idle next week before both return to action Oct. 7. Spring Hill will kick off district play by hosting Henderson while Van will travel to Quinlan Ford.
