CRANDALL — The Van Vandals used a big third quarter to blow open a 36-7 non-district win over the Crandall Pirates on Friday.

Leading 12-0 at halftime, the Vandals scored 21 points in the third on touchdown runs of 42 and 8 yards by Dalton Santos and a 2-yard scoring run by quarterback Garrett Smallwood, his second rushing touchdown of the game.

Van (4-0) took a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter on a 12-yard touchdown by Smallwood.

The Vandals made it 12-0 at halftime after a 26-yard touchdown pass from Smallwood to Rigo Lemus. Smallwood ended the night 13 of 24 for 200 yards, but had two interceptions to go with his touchdown throw.

Van’s only score in the fourth came on a Chuy Alvarez, followed by a 49-yard Pirates touchdown on a 49-yard run by Nate Banks.

Santos was the leading rusher for the Vandals with 60 yards on five carries.
