LINDALE — The Lindale girls and boys basketball teams posted a sweep of rival Van in a District 14-3A doubleheader Friday night at the LHS Gymnasium.

The Eagles pulled away in the third quarter to beat the Vandals, 54-40, in the boys game. The Lady Eagles dominated from the opening tip to beat the Lady Vandals, 67-31, in the opening matchup. 

Boys

Jordan VanDeKop scored 29 points and dominated in the paint for Lindale, which outscored Van 22-7 in the third quarter to take a 21-point lead into the fourth. The 6-6 senior scored eight points in the dominant third, including a basket that made the score 46-25 with 40 seconds remaining. 

Lindale improved to 16-7 on the season and 1-0 in district with the victory. Van fell to 5-12 overall and 0-1 in the league. 

Van’s Billy Raibon finished the night with a team-high 15 points, including the Vandals’ first 13 points of the game. He helped Van keep the game close in the first half, which ended with the Eagles ahead 24-18. 

However, Raibon was held scoreless in the third as Lindale gained control — going on a 9-0 run in the final 1:25 — and never looked back. 

Steven Young added nine points for Lindale, whose biggest lead of the night was 22 points in the fourth. 

Girls

Neeley Doss finished with 20 points to lead the Lady Eagles, who raced ahead to a 38-11 halftime lead after outscoring the Lady Vandals 20-9 in the first quarter and 18-2 in the second. 

All told, Lindale was represented by 10 players on the scoresheet to improve to 16-8 on the season and 3-0 in 14-3A. 

Bri Thompson scored 10 points to lead Van, which fell to 10-10 overall and 2-1 in district. 

Lindale added to its 27-point halftime lead in the third quarter, increasing the advantage to 33 points with less than a minute on the clock. 

Lindale scored on a layup with 5:00 left in the fourth to make the score 61-26.
