Isaac Stafford and Ryan McWha engage in a one-sided embrace during rehearsals.

When Shane and Krysti McWha of Tyler decided to sponsor a holiday stage show in Tyler, their choice of what play to pick wasn’t that hard.

“‘A Christmas Carol’ was an easy choice for us since we love the story and message,” said Shane McWha of Charles Dickens’ beloved story of the coldhearted Ebenezer Scrooge who, with a little help from some ghostly visitors, learns in the spirit of Christmas to appreciate those in his life.

“Krysti and I love Christmas and have talked about bringing some type of Christmas entertainment to Tyler for a few years, and this year the time just seemed right,” he said.

After deciding on the play, the McWhas had to figure out a place to present it and someone to oversee their project of spreading holiday cheer via the stage.

After visiting Liberty Hall in downtown Tyler, they knew it was “the perfect intimate setting for our production,” he said.

They hired Clay Nail to direct the play and held an open casting call to fill the many roles.

“Response to the auditions was great, especially for our first production,” McWha said.

He said creating the sets became a labor of love for his entire family.

“Our carport looks like Hobby Lobby and Home Depot had a baby,” he said.

“It’s a little scary not knowing what the response to the play will be, but we’re hoping that the good people of Tyler share our love of Christmas and come out to support the play,” he said. “This has been wonderfully challenging and very rewarding and we have made so many new friends.”

Performances are set for 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Hall, 103 E. Erwin St. Tickets cost $10 and can be ordered online at libertytyler.com.
