Sharing messages of love and hope

In what has become an annual tradition, local Christian radio stations KVNE and KGLY are inviting the public to make homemade Valentine’s Day cards with special notes of encouragement.

The stations partnered with the Chick-fil-A at Broadway Crossing in Tyler on Wednesday to put on a Family Night for people to make the cards.

Sarah Lowery and her children Raegan, 7, Adalyn, 5, and Lincoln, 2, were at the eatery Wednesday night decorating folded red, pink and white construction papers with sparkly stickers. They wrote sweet messages of friendship and love on their cards.

Lowery said that over the holidays, their family decided to participate in at least one service project a month to help the community and to experience serving others as a fam-

ily. She was excited for her children to bring their own personalities to this hands-on activity that will benefit neighbors in East Texas.

Over the course of the evening, people came in to personalize Valentine’s cards with all sorts of crayon and marker colors. Some even crafted hearts that pop up out of the card when a person opens it.

KVNE radio personalities will deliver the cards to 19 facilities, including to senior citizens in assisted-living centers and children in hospitals.

Candy should not be included in any card. Cards can be dropped off at any of 25 area locations through Friday.
