Michael Wayne Johnson courtesey Smith County Jail.

A traffic stop in downtown Tyler Monday afternoon netted Smith County Sheriff’s deputies with the arrest of a parole violator.

Sheriff’s Lt. Paul Black said the stop on the vehicle was in part because his office had received information that Michael Wayne Johnson, 36, was a passenger in the vehicle and wanted on a parole violation out of Temple.

The stop was conducted on Elm Street behind the Tyler Morning Telegraph’s building about 4 p.m. Monday.

Black said the vehicle was pulling a travel-trailer and deputies called for a K9 to search the vehicle and trailer but nothing was found and the driver was free to leave the area after the search.

Johnson’s record shows he has been convicted of felony drug charges, burglary and prohibited item in a correctional facility.

He remained jailed Tuesday morning in the Smith County Jail.
