A Tyler man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a homicide that occurred early Sunday.

An arrest warrant was issued for Humberto Leal, 39, as the result of an investigation into the death of Luis Rene Murrufo, 36, of Tyler, according to a Smith County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at 1:25 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of County Road 328 West in Tyler. Murrufo was found dead with an apparent stab wound inside a vehicle parked in the yard at a residence. Another person was found at the residence with a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Leal was taken into custody at the Smith County Sheriff’s Office and has been booked in the Smith County Jail on $500,000 bond.
