It’s the end of an era for family-owned Putt-Putt Golf & Games in Tyler after welcoming many generations for over six decades. The mini golf course closed its doors permanently Sunday night.

Weeks before school starts the mini golf course would normally be busy with mini golfers spread across multiple holes and playing retro games inside enjoying a cold treat.

“People have fun all the time. We had birthday parties, church groups, and daycares that would come,” said owner Katherine Adair.

Monday was all about clearing out the location. Heavy machinery broke the silence Monday morning.

“We have to take everything off the property we want to take with us,” Adair said.

Some items are being taken home by Adair, such as the large animal statues. Other items are up for sale to the community.

“You just about name it, there was some kind of truck out there picking up something. The hardest part is that I’ve watched all these kids grow up and now I’m not going to see that,” Adair said.

According to a permit filing at the business’ address, a new development of a Holiday Inn Express will sit where the putt-putt course is now. They were told about the sale of the property November 2022.

“None of us really thought it was going to happen,” Adair said. “Think about family fun, because everybody was like, ‘a hotel?!’ What are we going to do for entertainment when those people come here?”

As the era of the course ends, the relics leave behind a glimmer of hope. A water fountain that’s always been at the course for as long as Adair remembers will now sit at another mini golf course.

“The Lake Charles course is going to add it to their course in some way. If it’s a bonus hole or fun whole, something along those lines,” Adair said.
